Product Description

Now the 335 semi-hollowbody archtop is within anyone's reach with the cool-looking, yet amazingly affordable Dot Studio Worn models from Epiphone. The well-worn looking finish on the Maple Laminate body makes this guitar look like a much more expensive guitar, yet no guitar in the industry touches is quality for the price. With great semi-hollow sound voiced by real Alnico Classic Humbucker pickups, heavy-duty parts, Maple neck, Rosewood fingerboard, it has everything you need and nothing you don't.

Amazon.com Product Description

A nicely affordable version of the venerable Gibson 335 Dot, the 6-string Epiphone Dot Archtop electric guitar still features that fabulous semi-hollowbody sound voiced by real Alnico Classic Humbucker pickups. The trademark Dot design, named for the pearl dot fingerboard markers on early models, was invented by Gibson in 1958 to meld traditional features of hollowbody electrics with the performance of a solidbody.

It's equipped with 2 volume and 2 tone controls that let you tailor your tones to fit your style, and a LockTone Tune-O-Matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece for more sustain and easier string changes. Backed by a limited lifetime warranty.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Guitar - Remarkable price, December 17, 2011

15 years ago you could have never gotten a new guitar of this quality. I think quality varies a bit from guitar to guitar. One of the other reviewers mentioned guitar needs set-up....this is certainly true. I practiced on several identical guitars in store and some of them did not stay in tune well. However mine has been quite good and replacing the tuners would be a good investment. A great buy - cant go wrong.

4.0 out of 5 stars Semi-hollow body for a god price, November 2, 2011
This review is from: Epiphone Dot Studio Archtop Electric Guitar,Worn Vintage Sunburst (Electronics)
Amazon must have changed the picture, as it is correct for this model now.
For the price, you probably will not find a better semi-hollow body guitar. The Epi Dot (not Dot-Studio) is at least $100 more expensive.
Why did they call this model 'studio'? Probably because its better for studio work than live - there are only 2 controls, 1 tone and 1 volume, instead of separate controls for each pickup, so if you want to switch mid-song from rhythm to lead, you need to change the pickup selector and adjust your volume. There is also no pickguard.
Not everyone is going to like the 'worn' finish - no shine at all, it looks like a worn-out antique, but I think that makes it a little more unique than the glossy acrylic look of many guitars. The black 'burnt' part of the sunburst is not great, so the worn cherry color might be a better choice for most people.
If you buy one of these, you will most likely need to get it set up - adjust the intonation and the action, but... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars The Epiphone Dot Studio, August 8, 2011
This review is from: Epiphone Dot Studio Archtop Electric Guitar,Worn Vintage Sunburst (Electronics)
I purchased my Dot Studio new from a Guitar Center. Once in every other blue moon, a guitarist picks up a guitar and something magical happens; the guitar just feels "right" in his hands and body. That is the only way I can describe my experience with my Dot. A couple of things need to be understood here. 1) I am not an Epiphone kind of guy. I have always gravitated to Fenders or custom luthier made instruments (I built a few and fix a pile of stringed instruments). 2) I am definitely not a "Made in China" kind of guy either. Yes, the Epi Dot Studio is made,.... there. 3) The Dot Studio finish (worn brown, worn cherry and worn brown burst) suck. Not that the finish is applied poorly, it's just too Early American furniture looking for me. Having said that, I can bypass all the negativity about this guitar based on "how" I buy guitars. I buy them because they feel and play well. Call me strange, but I still like people with character rather than beauty, prestige, or money. I like my... Read more
